Feehly Hill Project
The Arrowtown Village Association (AVA), in partnership with the Department Of Conservation (DOC) and Suburban Estates Ltd (SEL), is undertaking a major restoration of Feehly Hill. This will be done in stages over the next five to ten years. The first stage is due to commence shortly and will entail the removal of all the large wilding pines from the area of the cemetery to the tank farm and across the face of the hill to the east. Professional contractors will remove these large trees and this will be followed by a team of DOC personnel to cut and windrow the broom and pine seedlings from the various faces of the hill. Once the trees have been removed, there will be controlled spraying to prevent broom regrowth. The replanting of special areas starting at the cemetery wall, will take place over several years and will be dependent on funding. Most exciting of all will be the construction of a walking track from the cemetery across the summit and finishing on Manse Road. The return will be via the newly built walking track. This will provide the community with an excellent recreational asset that will give outstanding views across both Arrowtown and the basin. During the preliminary tree removal stages there will be some disruption and noise associated with the logging of the large pines. Please consider the benefits that this project will give the community and the temporary noise will be worth it. For full details, please contact the AVA , or Michael Tierney on 442 1167 Stage 1 of this project: Removal of wilding pines, initial planting of native trees around the tank farm and removal of broom and small wilding pines from the summit and flanks of Feehly Hill Stage 2 of this project: This shall be determined at the end of two years from the start of Stage 1.
