Arrowtown and Macetown Walking Trails

The Arrowtown Village Association
has been active in both preserving old gold miner trails and in re-establishing those that have fallen into disuse.

These old trails are a marvellous way to see the back country. They can be accessed by people with a reasonable level of fitness.

The following Trails Pages will take you on a journey of self discovery, not to mention, the opportunity to enjoy the great out doors.

Before you start out, check with the Information Site at the Museum on Buckingham Street, as they have a full range of maps of all the trails. Enjoy!

The trail takes a left hand turn at the top of the Sawpit Gully Track (see the cairn signpost) at Eichardt's Terrace and follows a well worn trail up to the beech forrest. Once through the forrest, the track becomes a recognisable road and winds up the face of Big Hill and around to the other side. At the rear of Big Hill there is a wooden sign post showing the way to Macetown or to Hayes Creek. At this junction a choice can be made, but for the inexperienced it is adviseable to take the Macetown way and follow the poled route (steel warratas) down to the Arrow River and then crossing the river via our new bridge. Once on the true left bank, its all the way back to Arrowtown.
